and now for something completely different … .
Tip toeing through the hedgerows of a nearby English village last year, I snapped a few shots from my iPhone using an HDR app after which I popped it into Flickr for safe keeping - from where it has taken on a life of its own here in the depths of Tumblr without my ever having posted it here… .
What it seems to represent to those who have posted it is the idyll of English village life lived in happiness ever after! Sweet!
But photographs, regardless of how many layers of High Definition, only tell a snatch of the story and looming over this very horizon, in a field just yonder, is the spectre of a wind turbine.
As ugly and noisy as the bloody damn things are, here’s the rub - they cost a bomb!
The farmer, in whose field it goes, is paid a reported £40,000 annually, money which comes from the increase to electricity bills regardless of usage but the wind turbines are shut down when winds get up to 35 mph because of possible blade damage.
South Tawton is on the edge of Dartmoor, a conservation area of outstanding beauty but it has to be said here that Dartmoor is a wet desert, the first environmental disaster in British history when earlier populations chopped down the forests in the hopes of planting crops for future sustainability. It never happened… . do we ever learn?
Bottom line? So much is wasted in terms of resources and money. Want to object?

OK so it’s only one wind turbine but if this does get the go ahead, these pictures will have a structure the equivalent of a 20 story building block hovering in the background with a conventional power station somewhere out in the boondocks helping it along.
I don’t know what the solution is but something about this smacks of the smelly business of sub prime only instead of mortgages it is utilities. The money is coming from us, where is it going and to what purpose?
Grateful thanks!

Thank you so much, I was thinking how cool your shots are! Hope you get back to NYC again - you seem to have really enjoyed it!
